She dig

LOGAN, OH-  Adventurous ladies from Southern High School in Racine visited the Ohio Operating Engineers Local 18’s “She Dig 2023” event on Tuesday, September 19, 2023.

She Dig was an opportunity for female high students to operate heavy equipment and learn the ins and outs of an operating engineer.

Southern Local Superintendent Tony Deem and SHS Principal Daniel Otto were supportive of the event that offered hands-on experience and work based learning opportunities.

When the students arrived at the event, they received a warm welcome and a nice She Dig t-shirt. Several professionals briefly discussed the experiences they’ve had in the life of an operating engineer. They carefully delivered a fair and evenly weighted speech that highlighted the aspects of the jobs that could provide students future financial security.

The real fun charged up when SHS students headed outside to get hands-on experience with various heavy equipment, which included forklifts, backhoe loaders and dump trucks.

The SHS students who participated in the fun event were Jaelyn Norville, Amanti Hayes, Cadence Stewart, Krystal Holley, Kelsee Pickens, Reesa Doczi and Cali O'Brien.

Thank you to Ohio Operating Engineers Local 18 for the t-shirts, heavy equipment fun, food and drinks provided at the free event.
